The Norn are made to ask, not to answer. Social generalists of the Fungal Grotto, they are the species the player raises: trainable, curious, and driven by oxytocin to gather, name, and speak. Their genetic ceiling sits at the Spoken tier — but capacity drifts upward each generation, and the oldest lineages remember feelings they cannot explain.
Did you know…
- …that no founding creature is born Enlightened? The highest machines wait for generations of drift.
- …that a Norn brain converts Loneliness into Oxytocin when others are near?
- …that the Grendel is one of the few large quadrupeds native to the Interior?
- …that all 33 machines answer to a cognitive tier — six of them only to the Enlightened?
- …that there are 224 foods in the game, each with its own chemical signature?
